Custom Orthotics

Offered by Dr. Ryan Van Halst, DC

Custom orthotics are specialized medical devices designed to support and align the feet, improving overall biomechanics and reducing strain throughout the body. At Bodiworks, Dr. Ryan Van Halst provides comprehensive orthotic assessments to identify imbalances in the feet and lower body that may be contributing to pain, discomfort, or movement limitations.

Your feet serve as the foundation for your entire body. When foot mechanics are not functioning optimally, it can affect the ankles, knees, hips, and even the spine. Custom orthotics work by providing individualized support and correcting abnormal movement patterns, helping to improve alignment and reduce stress on joints and soft tissues.

Each pair of orthotics is created specifically for your feet using detailed measurements and analysis. The goal is to improve comfort, enhance mobility, and support long-term musculoskeletal health.

Benefits of Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics can help improve how your body moves and distribute pressure during daily activities. By supporting the natural structure of the foot and correcting biomechanical imbalances, orthotics may help:

• Reduce foot pain and fatigue
• Improve alignment of the ankles, knees, hips, and spine
• Relieve pressure from joints and soft tissues
• Support better posture and balance
• Enhance comfort when walking, standing, or exercising
• Help prevent recurring injuries and strain

Many patients notice improvements not only in foot comfort, but also in knee, hip, or lower back symptoms that were influenced by poor foot mechanics.

Conditions Orthotics May Help With

Custom orthotics are often recommended for individuals experiencing a range of foot and lower-body concerns, including:

Foot & Heel Conditions
• Plantar fasciitis
• Heel pain
• Flat feet or high arches
• Metatarsalgia
• Bunions and general foot fatigue

Joint & Biomechanical Issues
• Knee pain related to alignment
• Hip discomfort
• Lower back pain connected to gait mechanics
• Overpronation or supination

Activity & Lifestyle Support
• Running or walking discomfort
• Occupational strain from long periods of standing
• Repetitive stress or overuse injuries

What to Expect During an Orthotics Assessment

Your orthotics appointment includes a detailed evaluation to determine whether custom orthotics are appropriate for you. The assessment may include:

• A review of your health history and current symptoms
• Foot structure and gait analysis
• Biomechanical assessment of the lower body

To ensure precision and comfort, measurements are taken using a cordless 3D foot scanner, which represents some of the newest technology available for orthotic assessments. This advanced scanner captures a highly detailed three-dimensional image of your feet, allowing for extremely accurate measurements without the need for traditional casting or messy molds.

This digital scan helps create orthotics that are tailored specifically to your foot shape and movement patterns, resulting in improved fit, support, and overall effectiveness.

Once your orthotics are ready, Dr. Ryan will ensure they fit properly and provide guidance on how to gradually adapt to wearing them for optimal comfort and results.

Insurance Coverage & Payment Information

Many extended health insurance plans provide coverage for custom orthotics. However, coverage policies vary between providers, so we strongly recommend confirming your benefits before your appointment.

Please note:
• Payment for orthotics is required upfront at the time of purchase
• Extended health providers are not able to direct bill for orthotics
• Patients are responsible for submitting their receipts and documentation to their insurance provider for reimbursement

If your insurance plan requires additional documentation, such as a prescription or biomechanical assessment, our team will provide the necessary paperwork to help support your claim.

Supporting Your Foundation for Better Movement

Proper foot support plays an important role in overall mobility and musculoskeletal health. Custom orthotics can help create a more stable foundation for daily movement, whether you are managing foot pain, recovering from injury, or simply looking to improve comfort during everyday activities.

At Bodiworks, Dr. Ryan works closely with each patient to ensure their orthotics provide the right level of support, helping you move more comfortably and confidently throughout the day.
